Pinocchio

Pinocchio

The childhood hero of our fairy tales, Pinocchio… his nose grows whenever he tells a lie.
That’s why when you say to someone, “You’re just like Pinocchio,” it really means, “You’re a liar.”

But I want to ask this question the way Üstün Dökmen describes it in his book Küçük Şeyler-2:

“Pinocchio went far away at least he went somewhere. He passed through stages, matured, climbed from one level to the next. He rose from being an object to becoming human. His journey was a rite of passage.”

So let me ask you this:
“In that sense, are you like Pinocchio?”

“After Pinocchio ran away from home, he matured but he also suffered. When you left home to study or work in distant cities or foreign countries, did you suffer? Did the people who love you suffer too?”

How much are you like Pinocchio… or how much is Pinocchio like you?

Sometimes, it isn’t you who decides to start a journey; the circumstances decide for you, and you simply do what must be done.
Sometimes you set out with no goal, no destination, no clear purpose just to be on the road. But journeys without direction often end in disappointment.

That’s why you must think carefully about what you truly want to do. You must know yourself. Before taking long journeys, you should test yourself with shorter ones. Before you can run, you must learn how to walk.

Relationshop is a journey.
The job you choose is a journey.
Inventing something, discovering something, studying all are journeys.
And these journeys can push you forward toward happiness… or they can lead you into mistakes and unhappiness.

They say, “If you want to know a person, travel with them.”
But if you’ve already met yourself before the journey begins if you’ve overcome the fear of taking the first step — then most likely your path ahead will be clear.

And if you feel too tired or unwilling to begin a journey, there is always a reason.
First, search for that reason.
Because once you understand your reasons… you begin to understand yourself.
